Yeah, you can even see the polar icecaps on Mars. Cool!! And Steve, I'm probably going to get the 40D body this next week. Bought one off of here with only ~2500 clicks. You say to get a lens that is around 200-300 mm for some astroshots, so what is a decent one that is less than $700-800, and would also be a decent wildlife lens as well. I already know I'm getting the 100mm macro and also the nifty fifty.

Was this prime focus or through an eyepiece? I've been trying to get decent shots of Jupiter with only marginal results.

Thanks everyone.

Ron, I believe these are from 2004 or 2005.

Jeff, these were taken in prime. I used a 2X Powermate for Mars. Both were taken on exceptionally steady nights, rare around here.

Thanks I was using a Meade 10" LX200 and a TeleVue 2x Powermate to further boost magnification. Camera was a 20D. These were taken on different nights.

Thanks. I didn't spend much time or effort trying to improve my planetary shots. I moved into shooting deep sky and haven't gone back to it. I used to shot a lot of Lunar photography with my scopes but haven't done that for years either.
