Default MacBook Pro's Defective displays

This is now official from Apple:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

It might be worth keeping an eye on your machine if you bought one during this period (05/07-09-08) .

The fault lies with nVidia and they still haven't totally come clean in regards to who, what and how many machines are affected by this fault (both PC and Mac). The fault is in the manufacturing process and is at substrate level causing the chips to fail. To date most manufacturers who's have this fault have ramped up the cooling fans on laptops to avoid unnecessary heat but this has had the negative impact of shortening battery life.

Just a friendly heads up to MBP owners. Just do a Google will give the background to this issue and also possible pending lawsuit(s).

Good to see that Apple will continue their good service in offering free repair for any affected laptops.

Both HP and Dell have also said they will honour any failures on the graphics chips as well as they have a number of lines affected by this issue. nVidia have done a one time write off to the tune of $200 million due to these faulty chips. Note that the warranty is only up to two years from purchase and not lifetime.

I'm just suprised it's taken this long for Apple to admit it as both Dell and HP put up notices back in June to tech support.
