I see a lot of wedding pros use 30D/40D. Sports pro almost exclusively using 1D series. PJ requires a sturdy body, so again, most likely 1D body. Obviously, any camera can work at any job, some works better than others.

It's not a question of if the camera body is good enough for professional work, it is a question of if the person behind the camera body is good enough for professional work.

Yes the XXD series won't be as limiting as your current XXXD series cameras, but you'll find that the XD cameras have even more features that make it easier on the photographer. PJ and sports shooters regularily submit their gear to harsh environments so something built like a 1D is more desirable.

Really... you just need to know your gear and know it well.

I know pros who use XXXD cameras because they appreciate the size...
Though I admit, they are rare

XXD is considered good enough for any pro who doesn't need the resolution of FF and the build quality of a 1D MkX

I am a wedding photographer and my wife and I used a 30d and 20d up until a few weeks ago when we got a 5d for its low light capabilities.

I keep trying to find that damn profit button on my 30D. My 5D doesn't have one either, but it does have a narrow damn dof wheel.

Here's the way I see it... if you need 10 fps, go with a 1-series body. If you need thin DOF, go full-frame. Otherwise, a xxD body should do the trick. Personally, I wouldn't let high ISO performance be a deciding factor since it's such a close race now.

Yes. I know quite a few wedding shooters who use a XXD body. Sports.... the 1-series hold up a little better thanks to the superior AF, generally.

The vast majority of the time it's the photographer that's the limiting factor, not the body

Another part to the answer is the final output. For a PJ who works at a paper, an XT actually is more than fine as far as IQ goes. The images will be halftoned. And halftoning is the death of images.
