Here are some images from the homecoming game at Stony Brook University. C&C is appreciated.
The light was not my friend, I kept having to bounce between 400-800 ISO to keep at 1/500 and by the end of the game I was at 1600. The game was shot with a combo of 1D Mark IIn (100-400) and 40D (24-105mm). 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. A little off-topic since I was playing around, but it has sports in it. ![]() |

#5 is great, but I like #6 better. If you cropped in on his face, the expression is perfect!
Some of them seem a bit soft though. I think cropping in on a few of the others would enhance the images also. Thanks for sharing!

would of liked to see you shoot wider open to blur out the background more.

5 and 6 are you solid ones here. the others wouldn't be keepers for me. give the advice above a try and see it it isn't less frustrating. I'd love to see the results and your feelings afterwards. |

EDIT: I can see that the ones I posted (almost all from the first half) were smaller apertures, most of the 2nd half was all at 5.6 though. The setup was going to be: 40D + 24-105mm, 1DIIN + 100-400mm, about half way through the first half the NEW battery of the 1D died on me, so I had to switch lenses and keep going with the 40D. I think you would be better off with your 70-200. The DOF is real distracting. I think #5 is sharp enough to crop tighter and would be a pretty nice shot.

I like #7 for a non in-game action shot- the only thing I'd change is getting rid of the number or whatever is on the ground closest to where you shot.... it caught my eye right away. I scrolled back up on the page and the image looked nicer w/out it IMO.

I actually found the expression on the water-girl's face great. that's why I kept her in it. But I can see your point.
