*ahem* 5D ftw .

In all honesty the 40D is a fine body, but tell us your lens lineup, that'll help!

I have have a 40D and like it. You're welcome to try it out at one of the meet ups.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about it.

Shot all last year with two 40D's, lovely camera and plenty of features to satisfy any shooter. Better high ISO performance than it's predecessor the 50D and I found it nice and light to lug around compared to the Mk3. I also used my 40D to take pictures at my girlfriends sisters wedding and was quite pleased with the 40D + 24-70L combo I used.

Lloyd (his user name escapes me) is a frequent wedding shooter and actually turns to his 40D for a lot of shots surprisingly even though he's got a D700, 1Ds3 and 1D3 in his bag.

Lloyd = picturecrazy. He's in love with the 10-22 and 17-55, hence the 40D choice. Can't blame him, those are some great lenses (though he's modded his 10-22 for the MK3). I'm still inclined to recommend the 5D - we're having this same discussion in the 5D admirer's thread and we've just gotten another 40D->5D convert .

If you can swing it I would look at a used 5D.....the IQ is simply amazing. If not the 40D is highly recommendable.....

Welcome Norm! You'll hear of any updates right here .

The zoo would be cool, but my vote, if the weather is good, is still to go birding to get some shots in the wild - doesn't have to be Tommy Thompson.

I was going to suggest that, but if it's going to be warm it could be fairly wet with the melting snow. Which is why I suggested the zoo as I figure the paths will be clear. We can see what the weather holds

Ahh I see. I can't speak for everyone else, but I love getting stuck into the elements when birding . I am perfectly willing to get gross and slosh through melting snow to chase down some birds - last year when I went to Tommy Thompson, I had to use my tripod as support as I slid down a hill covered in 2 feet of snow to get to an owl. I just need to find my boots.

I'm going to start the Anti-5D Club. DOWN WITH FULL FRAME! BOOOO-HIIISSSSSSSS!!!! I'm just bitter because nowhere has 5DMk2 except for scalpers

I'd say if $$$ is no object, go 5D. If money's tight, get a 40D and some good glass and upgrade to a 5D later.

Heh.....well my only gripe and my frustration with this particular body is the dust. This thing attracts dust like no ones business. I can clean the sensor no problem which I do but man the dust in the view finder is crazy and I can never seem to get it out....it drives me nuts

Set one of those up during your shoots or around your house, the air will be so statically charged you'd be hard pressed for dust to even move it would be so fixated to the areas it was Not recommended for models hair!
