Default Alien Bees Cybersync wireless

Using the Cybersync to fire WL5000 and 580EX.

Wanted to set up so the master was the WL5000, but for some reason could not get the 580EX to fire as the Slave. Don't seem to have any problem firing the WL5000 as slave from 580. Hooked the Cybersync up to the 580EX and it fires the flash fine and in turn the WL5000 fires as slave.

I don't think I even set the 580 as master, just let that flash fire, triggered by the Cybersync, and the auto slave of the WL, fired the WL.

The WL seems to fire fine as slave with the built in auto slave.

Does the 580 need to be facing the WL to fire as slave? The WL was fired through white umbrella straight on. And the 580 was fire away from the subject into a silver umbrella.

The red "box" in front of the 580 EX needs to see the light from the WL5000. So turn the body of the flash so that the "red box" faces the light coming from the WL5000 - i.e. there needs to be a line of sight between the light and the 580EX sensor.

If the WL5000 fires through umbrella, the light reflected off something needs to hit the 580EX sensor in order for the 580EX to trigger and fire as well.

Sorry, the WL5000 won't fire your 580EX unless it can transmit ETTL compatible signals. If it can Paul Buff will make a real fortune.

It can....

The 580EX can be triggered by the WL5000 if it has an optical slave trigger attached to it.

An example of an optical slave trigger would be the Wein Optical Peanut triggers.

The WL5000s have built in optical slave triggers, thats why it works the other way around with the WLs as slave and 580EX as master.

Canon EX flashes are notorious for not playing nice with optical triggers.
