Default Borrow a Original 1D?

I have been wanting to try it out, and have never gotten to hold(not even see!) a 1d/1ds in person. This might be a good thing, but im looking to rent one since im thinking of purchasing a 1d. Id like to have the rugedness so i can just grab it and go where-ever. Im not looking on renting a higher version of the 1d since its out of my price range. Hope theres something still out there

Borrow one to hold and maybe fire... and then you will never... ever... be satisfied with a "prosumer" body again. Slippery slope... and I am at the bottom of it.

For what you tend to shoot, I don't think that a 1D would really fit your shooting style. Are you looking at it just for the weather sealing? Main reason that I'm asking is because most of the shots that I've seen of yours are pretty large. The 4MP sensor doesn't leave a whole ton of room for cropping. That being said, it's a fantastic camera.

The resolution is the big "if" for me. That's one of the reasons why i want to borrow one to test it out. The main compelling points are the x-sync, 8fps, weather sealing, and price. It seems like a great backup body, and body to use in potentially dangerous shooting(beach, water, ect), or if i need the speed. I usually don't crop so that's not a problem. I also want to start getting behind the scene shots of my photo shoots, since i like to keep them as examples and for personal remembrance. I could just give it to my g/f or whoever is assisting me to snap away.

I have talked to a friend and he has one around with low actuations, and two batteries, that he would sell, and put it on ebay so i can use the cashback. For the price i might just buy it, and then sell if I for some reason i dont like it.

It seems capable for my style, here are shots taken with the 1d:
