Red face Having two bodies when you only want/need one...

CAMERA bodies, heh.

Long story short. I bought an Xti a month ago. Used it for a few days until I realized it was the 40D I should have gotten. Obtained my 40D which I love beyond love.

I would have returned the Xti to B&H but I had given away the kit lens. I have the Xti, along with a nifty lot of accessories, etc., up on ebay, for now the SECOND time. No one is buying.

So, I might be stuck with 2 bodies. I really would love (and need) the cash from the Xti and goodies, but I guess its just not a hot item anymore?

So, I guess there is a strong possibility I will be stuck with 2 bodies. I am not a pro and and only a beginner...and as much as I LOVE this picture taking/processing/learning/growing...I cannot see any reason to have 2 big fat cameras.

Can anyone ease the sting of all of this and give me some benefits/uses for 2 bodies, as a beginner? I need to turn this all into a positive in my mind, I guess

What kind of photography do you do? if you just do candit of family and stuff, then you don't need two bodies... But if, for example, you like sport, or wedding, then having two bodies really help. You can use one for portrait (combo with either 70-200mm, or 85mm) and one with the wide angle zoom so you can take group shots and wide angle view pics... I really like doing wedding (even though I'm not a pro...yet..) and I really feel the need for two cameras to do what I just stated. I recently helped my aunt to take some picture of a fundraising she was doing with only one camera. I wanted to take candit shots of people planning and preparing and how the guests's reaction and things like that, so I put on my 85mm and walked around having fun taking candits. But suddenly my aunt ran up to me and asked me to take a group shots for her and a few other people. I had to say sorry and asked them to wait when I changed lense. That's the kind of situation when I really wished I had another body. So changing lense in these situation really is not the solution.

When i got the 50D, my intention was to sell my 400D to a friend at work. I decided not to sell for two reasons. First, the "£" value of the 400D is poor. I would rather keep it than give it away at a stupid low price. Second, when shooting a local soccer match, i found it was handy to have the 85mm on the 50D for the close end shots, and the 135 +t/c on the 400D for the far end shots, (i know ,i should use a 70-200 zoom, but i've got and prefer primes). Also now my wife is now learning with the 400D.

Well, at the moment, as a complete novice, I am only shooting my 3 year old daughter, landscapes, and places we venture out to on the weekend. I live in a beautiful part of the country and take a lot of landscapes in lots of different places. So, fast lens changing isn't so much an issue right now. I am still at that point where I am having to actively *think* about every shot, settings, where everything is on and in the camera...and cannot imagine actually using a second body any time soon. That's not to say it won't change in the future, as my passion for this (and hopefully skills) grow.

ETA: I guess what I am trying to say is that at this point, so early on, its not worth the cost of a second body for me to save time/hassle switching lenses. I really could use the cash right now, but hey, who couldn't. I just need some positives, and yall are giving me some. For that, I appreciate it. Maybe it IS something I will need down the line. Or maybe not?

You might well find a buyer right here on the site, especially if the price is right. It's worth a try.

I was hoping to sell here, but I can't until I've been here 30 days, which is like sometime next week or something.

I have a 400D and a 40D. I mainly use the 40D, but when I know I want to cover something which requires both long and short lens to do it good, I bring both, one with EF-S 10-22 mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, the other with EF 70-200 mm f/4L IS USM, or whatever I think is appropriate for the day.

I guess that makes sense. I suppose I could put my 10-22mm on the 400D, and the 70-300 or 28-135mm on the 40D, or vice versa It just seems a bit much of a "luxury" to me, being new to this and all. But seeing as how low the xtis are selling for, even with the pile of stuff I am selling with mine, it might be worth it to hang on to it all, I guess. Like buzzy said, though, I guess "I would rather keep it than give it away at a stupid low price."

I guess I'll let its run on ebay end, and maybe post it here, seeing how things go. But now at least I have some positives for having it, just in case it turns out that way. Thanks, yall

You can get an almost new XTI for $350 every day. It's not worth selling.

Where? I looked EVERYWHERE and ended up buying mine for over 600 at B+H. This is before I knew about live.com rebate...

I did about the same thing you did but late last year and just sold my XTi kit here a few weeks ago. I upgraded to a 20D and then did the live.com cashback thing on ebay and snatched a 30D for real cheap about 2 days later. Just wait until you can list it on here and put it up for sale, I'm sure you'll have some bites. If not, I have a grip you can buy for it that is like new!! lol Ohh just checked your ebay ad and you already have the grip. One thing you might do is sell everything separately. That nifty fifty and that IS kit lens should sell quick if they are priced competitively.

The body you found on B&H for $409 is the XT, not the XTi. The body for the XTi is still selling for $519 and the kit for $604 on B&H.

Ah, OK. I was doing too many things at once here at work and didn't look closely Thanks for that! So, starting bidding at 699 for an almost new Xti, grip, extra battery, remote shutter release, 50 1.8, and 18-55 IS is not too high then, right?
