Exclamation I got HIT!!! - Paypal scam

Wow!!! Somebody charged a laptop from my paypal account!!! Good thing I was keeping a close eye on my finances. Kinda scary.........I realized that this could be connected to the time when I clicked on that "fake" paypal email - which is about the time when this forum closed............

Everything is under investigation.............so hopefully it goes well.

I just feel stupid and vulnerable - kinda scary!!!

I am pretty sure the new Thunderbird email client has something that checks for these scams. Scammers send URL links in a different format so they appear to be legit but really aren't. True of matter is, never click anything from an email that requires account details. If you suspect something, go to the site manually and see if there are any notices on your account when you log in. I must get 10 types of these emails every week asking for me to update my account information. I just laugh at them now.

I just got one of those the other day in my Yahoo email. They wanted my PayPal acct info. It did look like a real email from them though, so I could see how people could give out their info. I just happend to think for a second and realized that I used my personal email acct. not my yahoo email to set up with PayPal. So I figured it was a scam.

I got one of those 'A new email address has been added to your PayPal account' emails today. Do Not follow the link in the email - even though the text on the screen shows the PayPal URL, if you look at the bottom of the page when you cursor over it, you can see that it would take you to the scoundrel's Web site.

If you forward the email to spoof@paypal.com they will investigate it and, hopefully, track down the perp.

Hope this helps.

Have Fun,

Never click on any link in email that concerns finances in any form. Paypal, banks, credit card companies, amazon accounts, etc. Type in the URL yourself, or use your own bookmarks.

If you forward emails to that spoof address make sure you include full headers to help them track things down. Don't delete the emails either.

I received one a week or two ago, something about a loss of the database, and that I had to go to the site and re-register.
Yeah, right...........
