I've posted this image on other sites as well, and seems like half of the comments are, like yours, and the other half is more like "Great that they are not lined up, makes it look real"

But honestly I aimed for them to be lined up, but the carrot kept rolling around, and I missed it in the final shot ;)

Lining up the cut edges does a better job of conveying the idea behind this conceptual piece: the cuts that went too far. You can take a thin slice off the bottom of rounded or bumpy food to keep it in place.
