Yanz i like your white balance, its really true colors you produce!!!!
and your shots in general, but apart from the first shot the food isnt looking that great, you have many much better food shots on your site that i have seen!

Macobee thanks a lot for your comments and critique! Can you please elaborate a little bit more on the reasons you think the food doesn't look great. I want to do more food shots and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi Yan, and pls excuse me, as you know I have much to learn still myself, but what i dont like from your food pics for example are the steak, despite the picture being good, the steak itself looks more like its boiled instead of grilled/fried.....i mean look at the color of it.

The Chicken, i like the idea that you pushed herbs under the skin, but the asparagus on its side they look totally overcooked, all color is gone.

Also with the chicken the tieing of the legs could have been done neater, this makes me think more of a bondage session (haha sorry but it does)

again i think your shots are excellent, just try to put a bit more attention on detail of the food.

pls spank me back with critique about my food and shots as well, i need it. its how i learn

Sorry if you find this hard to take, but this is my every day reality. i am sometimes surprised how poeple eat without knowing what they do, i.e. they are very far away from where we once were, catchin, killing, cooking and eating for survival.
anyway this was a pheasant flown in from France, for my game promotion. Legs will be made into a confit, breasts stuffed and roasted and from the left overs we make a nice soup with mushrooms which is served first. so Phesant in three courses!

Hey Macobee. I didn't have a chance to answer earlier. Thank you very much for your elaborate answer. It really helps me learn. I agree that i have to work on cooking properly and plating the food. Have to talk to my wife "the cook" about that She had a kick out of your bondage comparison

You have a lot of great food shots. I also checked out your flickr page and you have a lot shots with great composition. In my opinion you have to work a little bit on the lighting. Most of the shots you posted to me look a little bit flat. It's missing a little pop. If you compare the bird shot and the santa clauses. I think that lighting in the santa shot is much better and it stand out more. I think they just need a little bit more contrast to stand out.
Keep up the good work and keep posting. I hope this thread is not going to die.
It's a great way to learn.

Macobee, the Santa Claus lighting is great. Did you eat any of them in the end? They look too good to eat.

The pheasant's feathers look very pretty. That's got to be a powerful image; it really lets people know that this is real. Well, of course, most know it's really an animal, but it's more powerful as a whole to show something deceased that we eat everyday.

I'd like to take a moment here and thank you for posting. You have kept this thread alive for a while and I too hope this thread will prevail. Have a happy holiday, whether it'd be Thanksgiving, Xmas, or whatever you celebrate!

Do they have fresh, vine-ripened tomatoes in Hong Kong ?

yan no worries, i dont take a leaf in front of my mouth.....so what i see and think of i say.

i also know i am way off with most my shots, lughting, contrast, composition etc isa not my strongest point! anyhow i also mlearn only by hearing comments on here.

Of course, my favorites were the humorous shots with the "hammer", but the photo of the mixed variety / colors in the 'boxed' gallery was my most favorite.

dont feel foolish i am the fool here as that time i just started out with photography. i didnt have lights yet but used strong table lamps..........so far for bringing in all the light because i failed moving my ISO to 100 or 200 instead it was stuck on 800 and i only realized after i shot and ate everything!
