Default Uranus & Star 96 Aquarius

Last night i finally got out with the C8 SCT Celestron f/10 , on an EQ mount . Attached the Rebel 300D up PF and shot 29 images of Uranus and the Star 96 Aquarius which at the moment is just east of the constellation Aqurius . The moon was bright , sky clear , transparency clear but seeing was not as good . Therefore caused alot of distortion on a planet so far away . In order to capture color without burnout i had to shoot 26 x 1/15th-sec shots and for disc shape 3 x 5-secs . Out of 29 images only 22 were worth stacking which i did manually in PS7 and extra PP for final image . Each image was cropped @ 50% before stacking . If you know where to look you can see Uranus in binocs but most likely you will not see color correctly . This is definitly a scope object with alot of patience . However looking at Uranus in a scope with high power Eye-Pieces sure makes for a night of viewing ! Hope you enjoy & C&Cs' welcome ! Also i have included a jpeg copy from Cartes du Ceil program showing the moon location last night and marking Uranus for directions .

Wow, talk about solar system and deep sky distant. Great job Ron.

So glad you were able to get out and enjoy some imaging and the night sky.

Cool shot. I really like the color. Amazing the detail a little 8" can get.

Thanks Steve ! Mainly i was shooting for the moon but was checking out CDC and saw that Uranus was close by decided to give it a try and this is what the results were . Most here probably wont think too much of this image but if they are aware of the distance and detail about Uranus then it might make them more interested . I usually look for Uranus every year and get excited to just see it . Still trying for Neptune and it's close by but haven't tried for it yet , but hope to someday . In one image that was 5-secs with burnout i actually got one moon to show tho . Also got the companion to 96 Aquarius show up a little .

Thanks bowtie ! Actually the 8" SCT is probably more common in DSO than most other scopes , mainly because of the price and second cause it's minimum size for lot's of DSOs' , and it's ease of transportation . Neptune is also close to resemblance only smaller and blue in color . Here is the original 5-sec shot which shows a companion to 96 Aquarius and one of Uranus moons called Ariel . Uranus is blownout from too long of exposer . I'm also including images from Cartes du Ceil program showing Neptune inset with Uranus . The moon belongs to Uranus .

Thanks Dave ! The moon will be fuller but farther away so maybe it will be easier to find . Good luck and let me know if you find it .

Cool, I've yet to view or see Uranus, (I assume). Wanted to go out the other night as the moon was occulting Uranus the other night, (well, not quite an occultation from where I am, but it was for the north of the UK), but as usual the weather put paid to it.

Great capture.

Thanks Adrena1in ! It's alot easier to see when the moon is gone or not close by . It doesn't shine like a star , or as bright as a star . Disc shape is very distinct tho and color can be seen but not deep color like my first image . If you have never seen either of the two i highly recommend them . Eventually i will find Neptune tho !

Thanks Rick !

Txcowboy , heres a map from my Cartes Du Ceil program . I have Uranus marked . At this size of map Uranus and 96 Aquarius look like one star but they are seperated over a 1/2-deg from each other in the EP . Hope this helps some .
