Hi all.
Should I use the extreme III or the Sandisk extreme IV UDMA in my Canon 50D. I am a little confused about the IV compact flash card (probably a lot confused). in another post on the forum it is said that all extreme IV cards are UDMA enabled, I see that the cheaper ones without the UDMA on the badge are marked as 40m/s and the dearer ones UDMA on the badge at 45m/s. Any advise or clarification very much appreciated. Neil

For my 40D I have a 2GB in the Extreme III and the IV.
I do not see a real difference in either one. I will buy the Extreme III the next time I need more CF cards.

Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure that the buffer on the 50D will fill much faster than the card can write. I use Ultra II's in my 40D and 1DMk3 and can fire off huge bursts without so much as a hiccup, I think the only area you'll see people in need of the faster cards is the 1DsMk3 and 5D2 with their much larger file sizes.

I have a 32gb a-data that i bought for less than $100 bucks. Works like a charm, plenty fast. I shoot 100% raw.

I got those SanDisk 8GB Ducati cards during the last round of rebates and on my 50D the light doesn't stay lit for long. And then I got a FireWire SanDisk reader to compliment and what a reader it is.
Go with a UDMA enabled card. You won't be sorry. And with the UDMA card and a UDMA reader you'll be even happier. Those 50D files are absolutely huge. |

Sandisk extreme IV UDMA (45MB/s) version. You will see a BIG DIFFERENT. When i first use 50D, my Sandisk extreme III couldn't keep up with it. Upgrade to Sandisk extreme IV (46MB/s) and it is super fast after that.
i bought it here: http://www.memorysuppliers.com/sa8gbexivcof.html enter "livechat" code at check out for additional 10% disc. They are legit vendor. I bought 3 SanDisk 8GB Extreme IV (45MB/s) from them last month. Last edited by Bubble : 13th of November 2008 (Thu) at 00:20. |
