Default Sigma announcement tomorrow?

Anyone else just receive this email from Sigma USA?

Quote:
Important Announcement from Sigma Japan

Please be advised that Sigma Japan will be making an important announcement tomorrow, November 11, 2008.

Please be sure to check the Sigma Japan website tomorrow morning >>
Maybe the new SD-20 with 25 mpix full-frame Foveon sensor will be out.

http://www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english...nfo_081111.htm

Now they can pump some money in them and get bigger and better sensors.

I'd sure like to see a full-frame Foveon. That would really be something.

Foveon's sensors have the R, G, and B photodetectors stacked on top of one another, just like film has R, B and G emulsions stacked on top of each other. All other sensors use photodetectors that are adjacent to one another (usually R, B and 2 G) in a single layer, sort of like this:

RG
GB

The camera's chip or your computer has to assemble the values from those four detectors into a pixel representing the color collected by them.

Foveon sensors can also take up less surface area, or use larger detectors, since they're in 3 planes instead of 1. The end result is that images captured with Foveon sensors have a real dimensional film-like feel to them. There are disadvantages, though, including a more expensive cost to manufacture and the can be prone to more noise at higher ISO.

So yeah, they bought Foveon. Should be exciting to see how the X3 develops and matures overtime, the DP2 has some incredible dynamic range.
