I've been working on my website. Still needs more work, but it's up and running.
http://www.bayoulan.com The website is to show my computer repair services, web design, and photography (just starting). Anything I should add / remove? I do plan on adding a gallery once my portfolio gets a bit larger. Also, how is the load time? I am hosting on my home server and my connection isn't the greatest. I tried to optimize the site as best I could. Thanks

For what appears to be a basic template design, I will also say the site loaded slowly. The header graphic at top could be seen to load slowly.
I pinged your domain/host and another, known server as a benchmark. Your times were not very good. IMHO, I don't like your menu dividers (//) on the right. They do not provide clear delineation between categories. Perhaps a standard menu which clicks to a secondary page instead of opening flash off the main page??

What I like about it is that it's a nice, and clean design. However, there are a few things that didn't appeal to me.
To me the menu items on the right hand side look more like ads. My initial intuition was to ignore them and to not click on them by any means. Perhaps a conventional menu, as CannedHeat suggested, would be more intuitive to the users. It's hard to understand what the "digg.com: Stories" on the bottom of the page have to do with the content you are presenting on your website. I am further confused by the graphics at the footer mentioning the Apache, PHP, and other websites. On first impression it appears as simply unnecessary clutter. Hope that you don't find the criticism too harsh, and I hope you find it to be helpful. Best of luck! |

The main page loaded quick for me, although I could see some very minor delay in the big header at the top.
The concept is simple and the design is clean, but I have to agree with Alex - the menu on the right is confusing. The link for Opera is clearly a redirect, but the links above that also look like ads. You can keep the pictures as the links, but I would make it more clear that the right side is a menu. I would have expected the Opera link to be at the bottom with the other text, or on a separate "Links" page.
