Default reflection of a White Egret

Please give me your c&cs on this image. I'm trying to figure out how to crop the left 1/4 and still keep the top of the post, shows you how much I know

Sorry, but there doesn't seem to be enough in the image to really tell it's a reflection.

As far as cropping, are you losing the top of the post because your crop selection is maintaining a certain ratio (i.e. 4x6)? If you don't restrict your crop selection to a predefined ratio, then you can crop as much as you want from the left without affecting the rest of the image. However, with what you have I'd suggest cropping both the left and right to see how portrait orientation looks. There's not enough blue to give a sense of solitude, and what is there doesn't add to the image.

I'm still trying to orient myself in the image, but including a bit of the actual subject and not just the reflection would help there. Or you could go all out and just flip it 180 degrees to better convey that it's a reflection.

Is it a real reflection or a Photoshopped reflection? If it is Photoshopped, you did a very good job except at the very bottom where the water and land meet. However, whether real or man-made, I have two suggestions:
  • smooth water is always horizontal and light reflections are always vertical because they are perpendicular to the water surface.
  • a reflection in the water needs to be upside down to look more natural.
I agree with the other suggestions that the bird and not just its reflection should be in the image.
