popular photography did a review about this lens vs. canon's 50mm i.4. its a pretty good review the sigma 50mm won. they said it got a better bokeh on it. go to your local camera store and try it out. peace.

The Sigma had better reviews? Doesn't Sigma QC vary, however? I own the 30mm/f1.4 and it is out of focus most of the time (even though AF point lights up). Many users reported the same problem. Is this lens any different?
(A positive thing about the 30/1.4 however....the bokeh is beautiful.) How about the Sigma 50/1.4's AFing capabilities? Does it vary per person?

After reading many reviews of this Sigma (I almost bought one), it seems it's a fantastic lens if you get a good copy.

Do not mean to hijack the thread but I thought this question would be relevant here.
For those who are in the know and used Zeiss lenses before - I understand that there will be a 50mm f1.4 for EOS cameras coming out soon. Its manual focus but the IQ is more important to me. Anyone has experience with that lens and how it performs in comparison to these two 50mm lenses? Cheers

considering you said it's coming out soon, doens't that mean that there won't be too many people that have had hands on experience with the new Zeiss? i read that it's going to be very expensive, though.

I do enjoy the Canon 50mm f/1.4 and nothing about it makes me want to use the Sigma.... but I'm sure you wouldn't go wrong with either.

I know a few third party lens users who swear by Leica (with mount modification) but not sure if that view is widespread.

It's the same optics as the one in ZF mount, which doesn't have very good bokeh. I plan on getting the Sigma soon.

Here is the Zeiss along with their 85 f/1.4. If they had autofocus I would grab them in a heartbeat: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08...ssforcanon.asp
Recommended retail price of both lenses: Planar T* 1.4/50 ZE € 579 (incl. 19% German VAT) $ 660 Planar T* 1.4/85 ZE € 999 (incl. 19% German VAT) $ 1,170
