I still wish this shot was sharper but you can tell it was going to hurt.

That football picture is awful- poor kids knee :(

That's exactly how I tore my MCL- in college they make all lineman wear braces on knees to help prevent injuries just like that! So common, so terrible

Aaaaaaaagh!!
This happened in an AFL (Aussie Rules) match between hometown rivals Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide in August 2006
The guy being tackled, Trent Hentschel, kicked the ball across his body as he was brought down.
The weight of his body all went onto his right knee and ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament requiring a full knee reconstruction.
This photo is of that exact nano-second. Note the distortion and bulging in the knee.
The shot is part of a sequence of 6 or 7
The extent of the injury was likened to that of a road accident victim.
He has undergone extensive rehab and two years down the track still has not played at the top level.
The local paper was going to run this pic on the front page but it was decided it was too graphic for the FP and they ran it on the back page instead and have run it several times since.
Several ortopaedic surgeons have also bought this photo as well.
BTW the pic was taken from my seat in the crowd using a 10D with 100-400L Series.

This is one of those lucky shots! I was shooting my son's football (soccer) match and was anticipating him going in to defend a situation. When he was approaching the kid kicked the ball and this is the shot I ended up with!

bw!

That's the best 'ouch' shot I've seen since Napoleon McCallum got his knee bent backwards by Ken Norton.

If no one's seen it, I can provide a link but of course it isn't my photo. Maybe google it?
