Venus, Jupiter and the Headstone(s)

Just in case on the 1st. it is 100% overcast, figured I better get an image or two of the two while the getting was good. This will show people relative FOV's with standard lens (using a full-frame body) so they can be ready if any of you need a quick visual reference.

First shot: Camera Canon 5D, ISO 400, TV 5sec., AV 32, Lens 100-400mm @ 135mm, no filters, single exposure, noise reduction on, taken 11-26 @ 6:01 p.m.

Second shot: Camera Canon 5D, ISO 400, TV 10sec., AV 10, Lens 24-70mm @ 43mm, no filters, single exposure, noise reduction on, taken 11-26 @ 6:24 p.m.

First one is good but the second one is excellent !! You should submit it to www.spaceweather.com for posting ! If that second were mine i'd have it blown up to a wall size and frame it !

I doubt I will blow it up. ISO 400 is a tad noisy and I do not have any noise reduction program other than what is in the camera. Now ISO 200 or lower and I would probably blow it up. That 24-70 lens is fantastic on sunsets/sunrises. I really like it's color reproductions. I just wish I would have went back from the 100-400 to the 24-70 about 5 to 10 minutes eariler.

I'm probably being, but what exactly does TV 5sec., AV32 mean? Shutter priority mode set to 5-seconds, and aperture set to f/32?

Thanks! Those are the settings the shot was taken at. Exposure is 5 seconds, the aperature is f/32. Now you can get there any of a number of way. Go to M and dial them all in, Go to Av dial in 32 then dial in the exposure compensation till it reads 5 seconds. Go to TV dial in 5 seconds then dial in the exposure compensation till it reads f/32. There is always a hope-n-pray in the green-box modes but with dark shots like this it keeps trying to make noon-daylight shots out of everything so I doubt that would work but then I am never in the green-box modes so I have no idea how they work. Basically those numbers just tell you the setting the shot was made at. Not the way or mode it was got to. Does that make sense?

Oh, I they I got to them was initially in AV mode, dialing in the f-stop I wanted then looking at the preview of a shot, the historgram and then adjusting compensation as I needed. If the camera would not go to a setting I wanted I flipped to M and dialed in just what I wanted. Rinse-lather-repeat or versa-vice as often as neccessary!
