Default How to tell if your 40D is a USA made or Chinese made?

I just bought a canon 40D from http://www.fotoconnection.com/ and it's going to be delivered tomorrow, the representative had to call me to get my submission for the order, he told me that there are more than one kind of the 40D even though they look like each other and there are no differences in its style but there's a USA made and Chinese made. my question is how to tell if your camera is a USA made or a Chinese made? regardless of the menu language ... it could be re-programmed and re-installed in English, is there anyway that you could tell from its body or anyhow that if it's a USA made or other made ...

Thank you

They are all made in Japan. The only difference I know of is that there is a USA warranty and an international warranty. If you're buying in the USA, you probably want a USA warranty.

I thought they were all made in Japan! The label on the base should state country of manufacture. Ian

This so-called 'representative' doesn't know what he is talking about.
Canon may assemble 40D's in China (anyone know?) but they certainly do not have an assembly plant in the USA!

They do have a lens plant in Taiwan I believe, but I don't think they manufacture any cameras there.

They are made in Japan. You are dealing with a scam store. They take your order. Then there is a processing issue and they have to talk to you on the phone:

"Do you want the cheap plastic camera you ordered or the nice metal one for $400 more"

"Do you want batteries and cables added to the order for $300"

"Do you want to stick with the crappy Canon kit lens or swap over to a much better Quantaray lens for an additional $200"

Do you want the cheap Chinese version of the lens or do you want to upgrade to the one made in Japan for an additional $150"

They advertise on the internet (usually ebay stores) with prices way below the legitimate discount wholesalers like B&H and Adorama. You will never pry loose a complete camera with all included parts for the initial advertised price. If you insist on it the camera will suddenly be out of stock for the rest of eternity.

Good Luck!

Every single one of my Canon cameras says "Made in Japan" on the bottom except my A70 P&S which was made in Malaysia.

FotoConnection has mixed reviews on ResellerRatings.com. I'm always a little skeptical of places that do business with a number if internet addresses. My advice is to stay away from this one...

A .5 rating out of 10. I wouldn't waste my day waiting for the UPS guy if I were you tomorrow. This is a scam operation

I have to agree with Ed here. This is a common ploy by the less reputable camera dealers to get you to pay more. They offer a camera at a great price but then call you back telling you that you ordered a foreign model but they can upgrade at additional cost.

OP, can you provide the sellers name?

he told me that it comes with the USA warranty, i don't know though if it's an international warranty or just works in the US. how to tell though? should i contact Canon and provide the warranty serial number and see if it's an international?

yea i thought the same but the guy who called me from the store told me there are two kinds of it one of them is a CHINESE and all the menu language is in the Chinese language i was like WHAT!! so why do they sell it without writing any note that this one that i ordered is a Chinese one?
you can check the first one that i wanted to order out through this link
http://www.fotoconnection.com/search...ords=canon+40D
it's original price is 719 but they have an offer for the black Friday and they increased the price from $719.00 to $649.00, but when he called me he told me this one is Chinese and the USA one is for $719 so i had to bargain the price with him finally i could get it for $699 ... you know what? i'm really not comfortable dealing with them they changed their deals from one to other representative ... finally when i asked him if i chose the Chinese one i need to see the USA one online he asked me to type (Canon 40D USA model) and i found it for about 1200 ... anyway i just called them and canceled my order!

If you can, just cancel your order and order from a reputable store like BH or Adorama, there is no such thing as a Chinese language only 40D. You can change the language in the camera menu.
