Default Cross-post: Anyone know how to rotate a G7 .avi 180°?

Here's the thing: I can pretty easily mount my G7 on a 1" ball from my rear-view mirror, and shoot films of track events, high-speed runs, etc. But the camera would be hanging upside-down.

Is there some software to simply rotate the video 180° after the fact, and if so, do you think the perspective would be weird?

Or is there a way to rotate the image on-board, so I wouldn't even have to mess with software?

Whatcha think, am I out there swinging?

Piece of cake. Takes a little time (since the entire AVI needs to be resampled), but piece of cake. And the price is right. Go download the free VirtualDub.

Thanks! Already downloaded, found the rotate filter, rotated, saved, and previewed! Works great.

The only thing is, the filesize went from 29.1MB to 414MB. (!!!!) Same frame rate and dimensions, etc. Just much bigger. Any idea how to trim that down?

You probably saved as an uncompressed AVI. You need to select a different codec: Video -> Compression. The selection available there by default can be a bit sparse; I suggest getting XviD (I'd suggest h.264, but that's a no-no in AVI files). You can download it at http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html - it's also free.

Also be sure that the audio mode is set to Direct Stream Copy, as you have no need to recompress that.

When it comes to XviD, you do have to pick quality settings and such; that is a science in itself, but just experiment. I would try to avoid shrinking the files much below the original size, at least.
