I deleted photos by mistake and was able to get them recovered but bridge and CS3 will not open them now. Photoshop says its the wrong type of document! I tried converting them with DNG but it wont convert them as it says its not a compatable type of file. I badly need these files as i am a wedding photographer and the pics are of the bride walking down the aisle with her father! The file sizes are perfect but nothing will open them please can someone help me. If it's possible someone wants to take a look at one of the files i will willingly send someone one i am desperate.
Thanks, Emander. |

Have you got ACR installed?
Have you tried opening them in DPP first to see if they are ok?

I have acr installed, been using it for a year or so. DPP does not let me view them either! Don't know what to do. The file size shows up but there is no shooting information for them.

Strange. Can I suggest you try and host one somewhere so someone here can try.
Can you see them on the LCD on the camera? Hopefully you'll get some more answers soon too.

Did not think of trying to put them back onto the memory card. They were recovered ones that had been deleted so will try now. Thanks

It says 'cannot play back image' when i put one of the files back onto the card and tried viewing it with the camera (40D). Surely there is a programe somewhere that can fix damaged files

What camera was used to create the RAW files?
Frankly I'm puzzled that you could have deleted files without backing up the originals first but that's a different story. |

Fatal attraction.

I'm afraid you might have to bite the bullet and admit defeat. Some of those recovery programs work well with jpgs but can't handle CR2. But by all means post one and let others try.

I must have deleted the files because i'm a ****ING IDIOT! It was an accident. It has never happened before and i hope will never happen again. Somehow the files seperated into two different folders on the memory card and only some showed up when uploading to pc. It was afterwards i noticed that only some had copied. I recovered the files that were deleted. However i am unable to open any of them. Do you have any suggestions?

+1 Card recovery programs sometimes change the extension on the file. Check the actual full file name and extension to make sure all is proper. If they are on the system and appear to be the proper size you should be able to recover them.

The change in the file name is from IMG_****.CR2 which is the proper one to _MG_****.CR2 i tried renaming a couple but to no avail. Surely there is a company/programme that can fix corrupted files. These photos are so important as it's of the bride walking down the aisle. I am in trouble if i cannot get them back. It's only about 20 pics but it is the content that is the important thing about them.

_MG_xxxx.CR2 would suggest that the camera was set to AdobeRGB instead of sRGB. Nothing more. That should not affect the opening of files. (Or anything else on the computer side for that matter)
How did you recover them? I've had good experience with SanDisk Rescue Pro...

Well, if you wrote to the card after you deleted images, it might be that you overwrote them... In that case, no-one will be able to recover them.
So, whatever yo do, don't write to that card. Can you put one of the recovered files online somewhere? Maybe someone is able to open them, or see what's wrong...
