Why is Dpreviews so slow in reviewing? Why is their review of the Canon 5d MkII not out yet?

dpreview have been VERY slow in doing almost anything over the last six months or so,it's not just the 5DII review that's lagging. Most of this was caused simply from lack of manpower, something they are getting on top of now.
If i remember rightly,it took several MONTHS from the release of the nikon D3 till they reviewed it-a simply appalling situation given the significance of that model in particular! Of course it could that the issues some 5DII's have been showing could be a factor. If that's the case they may have mentioned it somewhere on the site?Maybe canon even asked them not to do it yet?(pure speculation on my part!) |

This is not the place to get an answer to that question. Simply because NOBODY but the dpreview staff knows the reason so I suggest you ask them.

It seems that their format has changed a little. I wouldn't say they are slower, rather that they release reviews in bunches with dry spells in between now. I have always wondered why they never bothered with a review of the 1D3 (it's been out almost a year now), but that too is a question you will not likely get answered here. You could try at DPreview's Forum to ask, but I don't know how often staff members respond (if at all) to forum inquiries.
To their credit, they now are covering a broader range of topics (including lens reviews and improving their forum), so they may actually be offering more information now than they ever have.

Not sure why they are so slow. It may be due to manpower issue or due to the comprehensive nature of their reviews.
Who knows, but the general trend seems to be that everyone complains about how long it takes Phil to reviewed a camera and then argue with Phil about results if it's not to their liking. |

They will have to shutdown DPreview for a week if the 5d2 gets a lowly "recommended" or even worse "highly recommended (just)" like the 50D. Now that was some backlash.
I can already tell you that they are going to whine about the pixel density. That is their new thing. |

No point testing the 5D2 until Adobe releases a credible version of ACR for the camera, or DPR accepts that testing with DPP is a valid way to judge the images from the camera. The first release of ACR/LR to support the 40D was not that great. Ditto the 50D. From some comments I've read on forums it would appear there may be the same concerns with the 5D2 and ACR 5.2/LR2.2.

It takes time to do a decent review. They are always thorough and come across as quite objective to me. You also have to remember that the camera that interests you isn't necessarily top of their list. I am sure the 5dmkII is coming though.

Phil Askey has explained more than once why reviews aren't instantaneous:
1. Reviews are scheduled according to the readership market. If you want to guage that, look at camera sales. P&S cameras outsell DSLRs, so you can figure a hot P&S camera will be reviewed before a hot DSLR, for instance. 2. Good reviews take time. |
