A pair from the Skins Niners Game. I rented a 28-300mm L lens.

Where'd you sit? And how'd you get the lens into the stadium? I am in NY and the Giants/Jets don't let you in with the camera let alone the lens too! Stupid NFL... Did you smuggle it in?

Niners were OK with it. The trick was to detach the lens, compress it to the shortest focal length, and but it at the bottom of my camera bag. It BARELY fit, but since my bag is relatively small they let me right in. |

Great pictures. Lousy game... disappointing season (as a Redskins fan).
I brought my Sigma 50-500mm ("Bigma") to 4 games this year... didn't have good seats like you did. Pictures in my gallery (sitting in the VERY top row of the NFL's largest stadium). Quote:

What'd you think of the 28-300L? Thats not a lens that you see/hear about too often.

I got it because I thought I was going to only use one lens for the trip. I had a one week rental from the lens depot. I had it a couple days prior to leaving and thought the short range < 50mm was equal to my 24-135mm, not better. It was too big to lug around San Francisco so I ended up bringing both lenses. In hindsight I should I have gotten the 100-400mm, for more zoom. The big advantage of the 28mm-300mm is you can watch the game from a wide angle and then quickly zoom into the action. I like the push pull zoom. I was extremely impressed with the clarity and how fast it focused. My 8x10 prints (some cropped) from Walgreens are now framed on my wall. Very sharp. I'll try put an album up. It compressed down to 8.5", and fit snugly in my small camera bag, which probably allowed me to carry into an NFL game. I am a big Skins fan, but living on the West Coast this was my first live game ever. Shtty ending, but great game. They are coming to San Diego and Oakland next year! |

What really sold me on my camera was the burst mode. I'm not going to overfill this forum with frame by frame pics, but the 5fps burst really helped out. I would watch at 28mm, zoom to 300mm and then squeeze the shutter for 5 or 6 frames. ![]() Last edited by IconJB : 6th of January 2009 (Tue) at 14:52. |

I usually kept my 40D in rapid fire mode [_]]] but still tried to selectively time my shots. It works out well because even when I try to take a single shot in 6fps mode, the camera usually takes a 2nd shot before I lift my finger.
One thing that I enjoyed about being in the very top row is that I could stand 100% of the time. But when we sat in the better midlevel club seats, I'd be snapping the action at 400-500mm, seated and making sure my picture taking didn't interfere with anyone around me... then when the action got really good, like a long run or endzone play, my zoom would suddenly get obscured by the fans in front of me, rising to cheer. Here's our top row seats from the MNF loss to the Steelers (that's my brother-in-law and his GF)... But from the same seat, check out the Bigma's non-stabilizer handheld zoom (363mm) to the Redskins logo at midfield: And here's Jason at the far endzone (also at 363mm)... The Redskins Training Camp is only a few miles from our house... I got some great shots on fan appreciation day, even with the XTi I had at the time (link). I just bought a Canon 100-400mm L I.S., so I'll compare it to the Bigma. Can't wait for next year.

Nice shots. Its a different perspective from up there. Your shots look a bit like those overhead cameras they use on TV. Being close to the field does have its advantages though. This Raider fan looks lost.

Look at all those Redskins Jerseys! I see Taylor x2, Cooley, Moss, Theismann. Any Niners fans in SF?
