Default Small club recommendation

Hi,

Tomorrow some friend will play at a small local club and I would like to have some shots of the nigth.

I would like to see your recommendations for tomorrow. Bounce flash?, no flash?, take my nifty?, take my sigma? high ISO? open wide? problem with stage light? etc...

Thanks in advance.

Take both your lenses and the flash. Generally, if you have stage lighting, you don't want to use the flash. The 50 1.8 should get you by if you have any sort of stage lighting. If you're lucky, you may have enough light for the 24-60.
Use a high enough ISO and open your lens up enough to keep your shutter speeds up in the 1/60+ range if possible. A good rule of thumb is that ISO noise is preferable to motion blur.

If there is no light at all, pull out the 430ex. If you have white walls/ceiling, you can bounce it. Otherwise, you pretty much have to use direct flash. The key to using flash is to understand that you have an ambient exposure and a flash exposure. There are many variables that may determine what you want to do, but generally you want the flash to be powerful enough to stop motion. Typically, you wouldn't want the ambient so bright that it starts blurring your subject, but you generally don't want the flash in a cave look either.
When using flash, you can stop down a little and increase the amount of exposure time. For example 1/15 f/4 ISO800 might be a reasonable exposure with TTL flash, but the actual exposure of course will depend on the amount of ambient light.

High ISO.
Wide open.
Tungsten WB
Shoot Raw
If you use the flash, gel it to match the ambient (CTO filter. Ask the light tech )
