Default G3 Power Problems?

I'm just about to purchase a G3 as an upgrade for my G1, which suffered from the "No Power problem" has anyone had power problems with the G3 or is it too new for this problem to develop... excuse the pun.

I've had problems, I bought one in america about a month ago, and since getting back it has died completely. There's no power at all, I've left a post here before on this subject, but it must have bamboozled everybody!

On the other hand, my dad's G3 has worked consistently for ages now, and prompted me to buy my own, that's how much I'm impressed by them. Just wish my blasted one would work!

Hope I've not confused you too much.

P.S. come on all you brainy people out there, whats wrong with my camera! (Im only an electronic engineer and lighting designer, what do I know about power...!)

I wouldn't know more than to suggest the obvious

1. Try a new battery...go to a camera shop maybe and see if they will let you use a battery from a display.

2. Send it in for warrantied work. It should work, it doesn't...contact Canon and get info on getting it fixed under the warranty.

Good Luck!

Hi,

My G3 just died yesterday with no power at all. I got it in February this year. It's for sure not the battery since I tried 3 different ones with the ac adapter connected. The Canon "hotline" told me that this must be some sort of short in the camera. Will ship it for repair on warranty, but this is extremely annoying since I'm leaving for Yosemite tomorrow without a camera. So what's the use of a Canon camera if its reliability sucks.

I'm sorry to hear that about your G3 Volker.

Of no consolence is that electronics fail from time to time. It never seems to happen at a convenient time!

If you discover anything that may have led up to your camera dying, please let us know so we might avoid the same fate.

Good luck in Yosemite and have fun (pictures or no pictures)!

Sounds familiar, I've been too busy to sort mine out, tried giving it to my cousin who runs a photography shop, but she couldnt fix it, so looks like I'll be sending mine to Canon too! Ah well, at least they're good when they're working!

I often got this problem when I connected the Camera to my Computer via the USB Cable:

The camera locked and there was no power lighting, even if I powered the camera with the Compact Power Adapter when connected to the computer.

Then I had to remove all connections, remove the battery for 10 seconds and try again. By doing so, the camera functioned and I could download images to the computer.

The advice I got was: Check your firmware of the camera to see if it is the latest. It might be the problem some other people have had with the older firmware.

I checked the firmware and it was old (ver. 1.0.0.0), although I bougt the G3 in April 2003 (here in Norway).

Therefore I went to
http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/PSG3/...irmware-e.html
and downloaded ver 1.0.2.0. Quick and easy.
