Welp, I didn't make it anywhere near a spot to view the fireworks. I was there for a family party but by the time I headed out a lot of streets were closed and no place to park.

Awh man that sucks!!! I waited about 3 hours with one chocolate chip Z-Bar, a mug full of cold tea (bad idea) and a bottle of water. In addition, I stupidly took my laptop as well as my other camera and another tripod down to Kirby Cove, which proved to be a nightmare to carry back up to Battery Spencer. I had stiffneck all day today because the lowerback/hip strap on my StreetwalkerHD slipped out of its holder, putting the weight of my signature + a macbook onto my shoulders going up hill. That was a really really bad idea.

Nice shots, Nate!

Man, that's a lot of equipment to be hauling around! That's a pretty long walk too. Where did you park up there? I heard it was turned into a one way street and you had to come in from the other side of the tunnel.

Thanks,

Yeah, it was. >_> My dad actually dropped me off at the Battery Spencer entrance then went to Treasure Island to meet up with my brother and grandpa to watch the fireworks there. They did turn Conzelman into a one way street though, which was quite interesting. It was also weird to see so many people waiting at the bus stops around the city at like 12 in the morning.

Yeah, I bet! Seeing people waiting for a bus that late in the City would be strange! Same with the ferry terminals! lol

I went up to Hawk Hill around 4pm and luckily as soon as I arrived there was one parking spot which was extremely lucky since I only saw one car leave during the 5-hour wait. First time shooting fireworks so had no experience with settings and about 5-10 minutes into the show I didn't notice that the front element of my lens was soaked in condensation ... oh well.

It was definitely an awesome fireworks display to witness though.

great shots! My toddler fell asleep before they happened, so glad we didn't go. They said during the webcast some big finale, but I didn't see it?

Toshi and Nate,
Thanks for showing those, great colors and vantage points.
I can't recall where I saw it but I am going to try 1/100th to 1/60th for the 4th. It looks more like a nebula then.

For fireworks? I generally run several seconds for our displays.

Something that would look like this. So there is no streaking at all.
http://www.cepolina.com/fireworks_gr...la_secret.html
http://www.flickriver.com/photos/luc...ta/5346961697/

When you get the exposure right, the bursts will light up the previous smoke and make it look like a nebula.
