The working distance are almost the same
Tamron 180 - 25cm Sigma 180 - 23.8cm Canon 180 - 24cm anyone knows any review with 100% crop test shots with these three lenses? I know canon is the best one but is the double price of the sigma. One thing taht i'm wondering is about the af of the tamron Best Regards

Does the AF really matter? You will be using MF for macro and all of these lenses do have slow AF at "normal" distances. The general feeling is that the Tamron is the sharpest (by a tiny bit,) the Canon is the best built and the SIgma is the best overall value.
http://slrlensreview.com/content/view/158/41/ Here's one review of the Sigma - notice it is my lens he used for the test. He also tested my Sigma 150 macro. Read that review as well. I kept the 150 and sold the 180.

In general using a 180 macro for "normal" things, instead of a 70-200 or 200 prime is not really recommended. Can be done but most people just buy the macro lens they need for macro. Have you tried using TCs on your 100?

The AF of my Sigma is fast enough to track hummers in flight
Check out the archive thread: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=557082 One of my favorites by the 180mm: ![]()

Also make sure to check out the Sigma 150. A little shorter, but probably the best long macro in existence. Blisteringly sharp with relatively quick AF, excellent build, great bokeh and colors, and it's not that expensive.

I had the Sigma 180 before... all I can say is "WOW"... I bought the Sigma 150 also... but traded it with my current 1D body.... in term of sharpness, never seen a "not so sharp" macro lens..... If I ever go back to macro again... Sigma 150 is on top of the list... Sigma 180 second.... or maybe mpe-65 second and 180 third..

I owned a Sigma 180 recently to follow up on my earlier post..
Its ^&*$%ing SHARP AF is a bit..poor but i DOUBT that any of the 180 macros, or any macro lens in general, has truely "fantastic" AF speed..it certainly was no worse than the Canon 60mm i had
