Default Canon G2 and USB Hub

Can someone explain to me why you cannot use a USB Hub with the Canon G2. Will it hurt the camera if I tried?

I always connect my G2 to my computer through a powered USB hub (built-in the monitor).

I guess Canon plays it safe by saying that you should not do it as some hubs might be incompatible...

I use a Belkin 4 port hub - no problems whatsoever.
