Hi gang,
For those that do car shots, I was wondering what lenses you typically use? On crop sensor bodies like the 40d and Xsi, are the 17 and 18mm lenses wide enough for you?

We have an outdoor concours here in the spring and I shoot with my 17-40 on a 5D. I can get very close to details, particularly hood ornaments with it. At 17 close up, you can really isolate things.

18MM is generally wide enough but I find myself using a Sigma 10-20MM at 10MM a lot of the time depending on what I'm shooting or what effect I'm going for.

use to use my sigma 10-20 but now have a tokina 11-16, on my 50D.
Sigma was usually at 10, so I imagine the tokina will be at 11 haha

Wide, low and irrationally close.
![]() ![]() In each image, 18mm from a Rebel XTi. Now, the shape of street cars may not be best for these angles, but a low point of view for old race cars can give them a more intense and purposeful look. |
