Default Is it possible to use Macro lense for...

Portraits? Or just taking pictures of people in general, but a little up close?

Its been going through my mind for a bit now, and I was wondering if anyone could share any photos of people shot with their Macro lens.

I plan on getting the Canon 60mm Macro. I hear its very easy to lug around and useful for portrait/ people photography.

You can use the 100mm macro for portraits and they look great. I don't see why not you can't use the 60mm for portraits.

I've got the 100mm macro and it's fantastic for portraits. Don't believe the hype about slow focusing as you manually opt for "macro" or for distance shooting, and the AF responds accordingly.

As to the 60mm, best thing to do is go onto the Lens Thread and look at some images. If you like what you see, go for it.

Otherwise, get the 100mm and save yourself some money....unless it's serious macro you're into, in which case the 100 will reach it's limit relatively quickly.

I've got a Sigma 105mm Macro (honestly, from all the samples I've seen there's not a lot between the offerings from Tamron, Sigma and Canon, although Canon's USM and non-length-changing almost having me wanting to swap), and I've done more portraits than real macro stuff with it. Tack-sharp, nice bokeh, great colours/contrast.

This is just a quick and dirty selection, as I've only recently started sorting through stuff and uploading it to flickr (and reprocessing a lot of old RAW files from before I had a clue what I was doing...not that I'm that much better now)

I use my Canon 100mm macro for portraits and I've even used my Canon 180mm lens for head and shoulders shots. I seem to get more natural results when I can keep some distance from my subject.
