I saw a program on the TV a little while ago and there was a photographer who did huge set-ups - large format camera on a scafolding tower, street scene, every single thing in the shot was set up and deliberate, from the taxi entering the street, the two women chatting in the cafe etc etc..
Does anyone have any idea who I'm talking about?? It's driving me mad!!

OMG!! Yes! Thankyou! I don't know how you managed to get it from my description, but well done you!
And this was the image I meant (sorry about the small file size) http://images.artnet.com/artwork_ima...y-crewdson.jpg Thanks again!

His work is a lot too staged for my taste.

Its Gregory Crewdson, and in my opinion his stuff is incredible. Each shot can cost up to a million dollars. Its bizarre stuff to be sure, but it makes you think. The Phoenix Museum of art has one of his better ones.

What you dont get from that image at that size is the huge depth of activity going on in it - virtualy every window has its own story going on in it. Every detail is thought about and composed.
It really needs to be printed out at about 10' wide to see everything. Of course, I understand that this type of image isnt to everybody's taste, but wouldn't the world be a boring place if we all liked the same things?
