Same functionality problem with the G1. You need to turn the camera off, then back on.

Regarding overexposure, you can reduce flash exposure compensation using the camera's menus.

Good luck, and stop cross-posting (within the same forum, especially ),

Sorry for cross-posting.

I've powered camera off and back on, the internal flash still does not work, just see the flash logo on the LCD screen for less than 1 second, then it disappered.

How to deal with it??

Thanks

Check under the hot shoe area on the camera, there's a switch that gets stuck when you put your external flash unit on the hot shoe. It may be stuck in the 'down' position causing your internal falsh not to fire (because the camera still thinks you have a flash on), you need to free this switch...good luck

Check just below, the hot shoe area, read a few threads that there is a switch of some sort that gets stuck (black switch) Look very carefully when you attach your flash to the hot shoe, paying close attention to the "track area" and what it is contacting on the hot shoe. When the flash is attached it makes contact with this switch that disables the on-board flash.

Sorry but I don't have my camera to see for myself where the heck this switch is to tell you.

Other than that you can do a seach on this forum or "canon talk" on www.dpreview.com for this issue...

Hope you get it resolved...

I'm reading your post a second time again and I'm getting the impression that you are trying to do a "test flash" by pressing the flash settings button on the back of the G2.

You wrote:

If this is your issue. Then it isn't an issue. This button is for setting your flash settings. It is not used to do a "test flash" like on the back of 420EX.

Does your on-board flash on your G2 work when taking pictures?

As i mentioned, the on-board flash does not work even when there is nothing in the hot shoe, that' s my issue.

Before i used 420ex, it works well.

If the internal flash no longer works at all, then it's time to call Canon service. Hope you're still under warranty. Best of luck.
