40 hours? That gets you nowhere in Canada
I guess people could answer better if they new which part of the States you're in. For lakes, I would say northern Ontario, maybe Manitoba. For mountains, definitely Alberta or BC. The Maritimes provinces are nice for coastal pix and the cities there are 300-400 years old, so the architecture is quite different from the west coast. |

Quebec is awesome for old archetecture, Alberta has the wide open spaces, mountains, hoo doos and lakes. BC has mountains and ocean. I can't comment on the other provinces having never been to them.

Yes, Banff and Jasper are awesome. Banff IMO has nicer landscapes (just) but every time I've been to Jasper there's been more wildlife there. The two are attached to one another so you could easily drive through both.

You can't go wrong with any park in Canada. I like Jasper, but you can't go wrong with any of the mountain parks : Revelstoke, Glacier, Yoho, Banff, Jasper. The wildflowers are beautiful in the first week of august at the top of Mt. Revelstoke in Revelstoke National park...

Up where I'm at is beautiful, but god you're going to need at least a week if you want to come here, let alone be in great physical shape to get to some of the locations it has. Also bring tons of deet, because the mosqtious up here are the size of your thumbnails.
It may be just me that appreciates its beauty, but take a look at my carbonmade link for some of the sights we get here. NWT, Canada |

In western Canada you can't go wrong with Banff NP, Jasper NP or Vancouver Island. Drumheller is also a great destination if it's on your way.
