Default Bogen 3001pro or 3021pro?

Which one should I get? Looks like the 3021pro will hold an additional 2.2lbs over the 3001pro. Is that the only advantage?

The 3021 has a reversible center column - a plus for macro photography.

Don't they both have reversible columns?

You know, I'm not really sure now. When I think of reversible column, I think of the one on my vintage Bogen 3035 (circa 1980) , which, I believe, you take out of the top of the center tube and reinsert in the botton - I've never had occasion to use it like that. So, when folks talked about the 3021 having a reversible column, that's what I think of. If you look at the specs for both the 3001 and 3021 on Manfretto's web site, it appears that neither have a reversible column, rather one that can be mounted horizontally. Yet, when I looked at the B&H site, they say the 3021 has a reversible column, but never mention it for the 3001.

I have the 190 Pro which I believe is the same as the 3021 pro. IT has a columb than can be removed and re-inserted either horizontally or reversed. A very versitile pod and I have recently started uing it for macro with pretty good results

(shame my macro photography stinks though )

Ok, so I wonder if the 3001 can truly be reversed or just re-inserted horizontally.

Manfrotto 190 Pro is the same as Bogen 3001 Pro

Manfrotto 055 Pro is the same as Bogen 3021 Pro

My mistake

At least that leaves the question answered

As far as I know, the 3021 Pro has a reversible center column.

I had a 055 DB (= 3021 DB?) first, because the shop gave me the wrong tripod (I ordered a 055 Pro B). The DB did not have a removeable center column. I sold the DB and bought the 055 Pro B (at another shop ofcourse...).

Edit: Oh wait, now I remember better what my 055 DB looked like. Yes, you could reverse the center column. The idea was that you would hang the camera upside down between the legs. Not very practical at all! The 055 Pro B is MUCH better, because you can take off the long part of the center column and fold the legs almost all the way to the ground, or you can even place the center column horizontally. Much more practical for close to the ground macro photography.

I think the 3001 (190) is just a smaller, lighter version of the 3021 (055). The 3001 Pro should have the same features as the 3021 Pro, but you'd better check it out on Manfrotto's website.

The 3021 (055) is more than sturdy enough for my 10D. The 3001 will surely be good enough for the 300D.

Thanks for the responses.

I checked out the maximum extended heights for both tripods and looks like the 3001pro will be a tad short for my height. The 3021pro will be perfect (I'm 5'11'').

I went for the 3021 solely for the height advantage. If i'm not mistaken, it also has a bit more weight capacity.
