Default SDHC VS CF

I'm just getting into photography and I'm getting all my equipment together and I have a question about storage options. I was wondering if there is any real difference between the SDHC cards and the CF cards. My camera takes both and I can seem to find any information that point in one direction or the other. Any imput is greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry if there was already a posting on this but I haven't had a chance to search through all of the forums postings yet.

Welcome to POTN.

In general, SDHC cards are faster, and CF cards are thought to be more durable. I use a CF card as my main card in my MkIII, with an SDHC card as my secondary card. I currently have it configured so that if the CF card fills, it will roll over to the SDHC card. For special cases, I'll switch it to write to both simultaneously.

For a great database of CF and SDHC card performance in specific models of cameras, be sure to check out Galbraith's card performance database: http://www.robgalbraith.com/bins/mul...e.asp?cid=6007

Also, CF cards seem to be priced at about twice the cost of SDHC cards. If I had the option I'd buy SDHC cards, but my camera only takes CF so I have no choice.

^Where you shopping? B&H has awesome deals on Kingstons 133x cards. I've noticed just in stores alone and sometimes online that the faster SDHC's are still more expensive. I can find a better deal on a fast 8GB CF than SD.
