Default My G2--Is it really new?

After a year of wanting a G2, I finally ordered one. I paid mid price range because I used a highly rated supplier. It was shown as 'brand new with Canon US warranty'. It just arrived today, and I was very disappointed to find that it was in an open box. No seal, no shrink-wrap. There are no signs of use. I have not yet tested anything.
How critical is a 'sealed box'? What's the chance that I got a returned G2 that has problems?

I bought mine from Bestbuy. There was no shrink wrap on the box, nor seal either. Everything in the box was in plastic and appeared to be new.

Same here. I bought mine at Fry's Electronics and the box is not sealed, no shrink wrap also.

I'll answer my own question in case anyone else has the same concern. After battery charge, I went through all the menus for set-up, changed resolution and compression, took five quick shots with flash, and two with lens cap on. All functions work, pictures look great on Photoshop E2, and pixal test showed zero bad. Looks like I got what I wanted even though it didn't have shrink wrap.
Thank you for confirming that yours came without seal and shrink wrap. I feel a lot better now.

Not only that my G2 came in an un-sealed box but it also had a fully charged battery. Not sure if that is normal at all. Order page said it is brand new in factory sealed pack.

Anybody remeber if the battery was charged when received ?

Although mine came with an unsealed box the battery was not fully charged as I remember it. Where did you buy yours?

I bought mine from Best Buy Monday this week.

The box was not wrapped and was just taped.

The battery was fully charged which totally shocked me as book acts as if you will have to charge it first.

Paid $580. Pictures I have taken seem fair.

What would be the best thing to test to ensure camera is not a reject?

I bought it from MPSuperstore (online couterpart of Marine Park Camera, NY, USA). They don't have very good reputation but have good prices

Y'day, I read in a Canon ZR45MC (Camcorder) manual that its battery would be coming pre-charged from company. But G2 manual reads as if you have to charge the battery before using.

Most of the digital camera does not come in a sealed package, I guess. Probably Camera manufacturers should start packing their products in a better way to avoid confusion.

What are the file numbers when you take the photos?

The first photo taken should be 100-001. Then 100-002 and on up. When you get to 100-099, it will become 101-001.
Even if you change the Compact Flash Card, the numbers still increase.

I am not sure whether there is a way to "flash" these numbers, but I know you can turn it off.

Most people getting a new camera would rush out and take pics and not worry about turning the logging off, as they have no reason to.

So check the photo numbers; that should be a good indication...

Wow that is great idea on flash numbers mine started out 100-0012 and so on. I think I am safe. Cool idea.

By the way something i thought about on batteries mine were wrapped quite tight like normal batteries you buy so not tampered with that I would tell and also they had full charge on them. They were not wrapped in cellophane but rather wrapped and sealed very good as was battery for the remote control for camera.
