This is fascinating, and it's good to see young men playing and being happy instead of fighting each other.

Two questions. Firstly, does anybody have a 100% crop from the extreme corner of a full-frame image shot at f/8 with this lens? The photographs throughout this thread suggest that the lens can produce lovely shots of flowers, when run through Photoshop's unsharp mask filter in order to increase local contrast, and then cropped to 16:9 and sized down to 600x400, but what's it like in terms of raw naked full-sized absolute corner sharpness before the processing is applied? At f/8?

Secondly, eBay in the UK currently has an older Sigma 24mm f/1.8 of this lens for a keen price, but it's one of the pre-digital Sigmas that does not work on Canon's modern SLRs. I don't shoot enough film with my EOS 630 to justify buying it, and I'm not 100% sure it would work on my Kodak DCS 560 (which is based on an EOS 1n).

I suspect that the modern 24mm f/1.8 in this post is totally different optically to the older 24mm f/1.8 - it's physically much larger, for a start - but is there any hope at all that the Sigma of to-day can rechip older Sigma lenses? There's not much discussion about this topic on the internet, I surmise because no-one really likes older Sigma lenses, in part because no-one can stick them on a modern Canon SLR in order to post the kind of pictures that give lenses a positive reputation in threads such as this one.

You carry on.

The 24mm will be my next lens for sure, my first non-kit lens actually. If only they popped up on the For Sale forum a bit more often...
