Exactly my plan. Even then if I can find a sweet deal on the "old" model I will take it.

The RX 600 Seemed like a good a good place to be in the Elinchrom range after all my reading.

I hope the Elinchrom gods hear you Rob... once those puppies come out I will totally get one for sure, and Spring would be great since I get my Tax returns in those months

Morning everyone, I'm slowly learning my lighting techniques, my mannequin is on the way which will help me learn a-lot faster I assume.

My question, I thought I'd ask it here as most of the people I'd like to respond post in here.

A close friend of mine growing up is wanting some help with her make-up portfolio and I'm in need of a couple of shoots for my Portfolio (to be compliant with Model Mayhem and to start my potentail career - my photography has taken a swing in the other direciton lately and I'm really loving it)

I've recently acquired the Deep Octa and Quadra A Head Set. I'm wondering which is the traditional way to light the kind of shot explained above (I don't really want to try anything innovative as it is her portfolio too). I have, Deep Octa, Standard Quadra Reflector and a 42" 5 in 1 Reflector available to me.

Thank-you in advance.

I guess a standard lighting setup for Beauty (which is the style you want to shoot for a MUA portfolio) could be your Deep Octa above camera and angled down and close to the model's face (say about 1m); and the silver 42" reflector right under the models face to fill out the shadows that the DO will create under eyes, nose, etc... Optionally you could use the other Quadra head with the standard reflector as hair or background light. If it's really soft skin/light and possibly high key effect, I would use both diffusers in the DO; however if you want a more contrasty image you can go for inner diffuser only.

I also use a Lastolite Tri-Lite for beauty work. It's a distinct look with very distinctive catch lights but it can look really beautiful and for makeup artists that want to get that glow on the skin without any real shadow on the face then it's a great tool. You can use any or all of the 3 reflectors. I love it!

I have always been intrigued about the Tri-Lite but never had the chance to use it myself. I do Beauty shoots very rarely but that might change in the future.

EL Quadra 145x145cm $525 (US$481)

EL Strip 33cm x 175cm $474 (US$435)

ELINCHROM Square 44cm Reflector $327 (US$300)

This really is three reflectors in one. Without the diffuser and honeycomb fitted it is a soft wide angle reflector. It has a coverage of about 100° but as it is physically larger then our 90° Wide Angle Reflector the lighting effect is softer though it does have more 'bite' than our Softboxes. Add the diffuser and you have something between an umbrella and a Softbox, more controllable than an umbrella but harder than a Softbox. Put the Honeycomb Grid in place (which limits the angle of coverage to about 32°) and you are left with a soft pool of light ideal for all types of portraiture and small still life subjects.

This is a reflector that benefits from an actual demonstration so the customer can appreciate the many effects of which it is capable.

GOOD USED CONDITION - the support was dinged during transportation but does not affect its performance AT ALL .

JUST TO ADD TO THE VALUE - ILL THROW IN A SET OF BARN DOORS THAT FIT BOTH THIS , AND THE S35 FRESNEL SPOT. RRP $80

rrp $633 +80AU !

NOTE: THIS REFLECTOR SHAPER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND HENCE NOW VERY COLLECTABLE !

We regret to announce the sad demise of the wonderful Square 44 reflector.

This item was very difficult to make with any reliability which means that manufacturing has had to cease.

Unfortunately this item is now discontined.

If you already own one of these, congratulations, it's now worth a fortune should you ever wish to sell it!
$1326 ($US1215) in total, I couldn't resist it, given the prices down here (ie the Quadra is $1375).

Unfortunately they're a thousand kilometres away, but that's good news for Rai, who's picking them up for me until I can get up there to get them

If you get bored with it or my $100DD to Rai's account makes it in time. That reflector would be nice.
