Question PowerShot + iPhoto = Problems?

Hello!

I'm having a problem with my Canon PowerShot SX100 IS... I have several short videos on it, and when I try uploading them onto my computer, everything SEEMS fine: iPhoto automatically opens and tries to upload. When iPhoto comes to a video, however, it closes unexpectedly - every time. This means I cannot get my videos or photographs taken afterwards onto my Mac without deleting the films - which, in this particular case, I do not want to do. I tried uploading the videos from iMovie, but that did not work, either.

Can anyone help?

Thanks a bunch,
Lovely

What version of iPhoto do you have? The SX100 is a relatively new camera.

If I recall, you can use your Canon software to import the video. Can you tell what container the videos are in (e.g., AVI, M4V, etc.)? That would also be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

I have iPhoto version 5.0.4/iPhoto 5, which I think is from 2002-2005...and the videos are in .MOV format. I'm not quite sure what you mean, though, by "Canon software"?

Thanks,
Lovely

I don't think that version of iPhoto does video import.

Your Canon camera should have come with a CD that had ImageBrowser on it. That software will import video and photos from your camera onto your Mac.

My old camera (A Nikon, I think, but the model escapes me) would upload videos on this version of iPhoto...but they wouldn't play.

I'll look for the CD, and if not, I'm looking into buying "iLife," which has the '09 version of iPhoto.

Thank you for your help! (:
