Default Lowepro CompuRover as a mothership concept

Sorry, I've tried reading through the huge number of bag threads and I haven't been able to find answers to my specific question.

I've recently purchased a Lowepro CompuRover which I will use for extended travel, allowing me to bring my camera gear and my laptop without carrying a separate briefcase. The CompuRover is large, but travels well as a carryon.

However, once I arrive, there's really no way I want to carry that bigass bag to tote around my camera gear during the day. I'm looking for a smaller bag that would fit in the top part of the CompuRover when I travel. I'd use the CompuRover as a mothership and pull that second smaller bag out of it for use at the destination; it would need to carry my 5D with an attached 24-70, as well as a second lens, maybe a flash and ideally it'll have room for storage for things like my wallet, ipod, cell phone, etc.

My key needs in this smaller "pod" bag are the ability to store what I listed above AND the ability to travel compactly inside the top storage section of the CompuRover. Does this exist? Anyone else doing something similar?

Thanks!
Alex

that top compartment is really small, maybe one of the smaller million dollar homes by crumpler?

I do not know the exact size of the space you have in the top of the mothership, but I have found the velocity _X bags by lowepro to be small but carry a lot.

I store gear in a Lowepro CompuTrekker AW.. If I want to travel light I take what I need in my Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW..

The Slingshot is small enough to bundle into your check in luggage..

When we travel (by air or auto) I use my ThinkTank International carry on for camera/computer gear.

We also take three suitcases. One for her, one for me and a third to carry nothing but shoes/boots. In that third suitcase I will put a smaller camera bag to use at our destination.

I have taken to gutting my Lowepro CompuRover when I travel. Remove the center divider and padded dividers, they all velcro in. Then I put my camera gear inside another bag such as my Flipside 200 or Classified 160, and put the smaller bag inside the CompuRover. There is still room for most anything else I want to travel with, and when I get to my destination I can use the smaller bag.

Perfect.

That's exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks all!
