Default Canon FS200

Well, I've got the battery in the charger and the software installed. Ye Gods, the software was obnoxious to install. Which disc first? Registering it was a nightmare, my net connection kept stalling and what should have been a fairly straightforward deal went on and on and on...

But I think the cyber-gods are finally satisfied with me.

A question, please. Do you use a hosting site for uploading your videos and if so, which one? Photobucket? Flickr? YouTube? Vimeo?

Thanks

I have a pro smugmug account, upload all my videos there.

I'm looking at getting one of these cameras fast. I need it in a few days but can't seem to find it in stock anywhere. Could you tell me where you purchased yours?

Best Buy. They only had one in stock and I grabbed that sucker fast! They were having serious inventory issues, although they seemed to have resolved them.

I got mine at Best Buy as well. They get a few in every week or so, or at least the store by me does. I talked to a guy and had them set one aside for me. I picked it up, and had my mom record several parts of my graduation.

I would have rather waited for the red one to come out, but that would've been long after my graduation.

I've uploaded things on YouTube, pretty easy afterall.

It's a bit of a pain with a Mac, I had to upgrade to iLife '09 for the MPEG-2 support, and the camera has to be plugged into a power supply while connected via USB. But I couldn't be happier with this little guy.

FWIW to interested parties still shopping for an FS200, I snagged mine from
"ibuyplama" as an EBay "buy it now" for $279, reduced to $254 by a Paypal-sponsored discount. Order turnaround was immediate, shipping was free and faster than estimated, and product was new, factory-sealed, and USA-warrantied, exactly as advertised. The vendor seemed to have a supply of FS200s in red, blue or silver on offer at that price. Now I can rationalize spending the $75 difference from MSRP on accessory goodies.

I use a free program called SDCopy. it only takes a few seconds to convert from MOD to MPG in both 4:3 or 16:9 format.

I ended up getting the FS11 because I needed a remote, only the FS11 and FS22 are compatible with remotes, the FS11 was cheaper, with 80gb of SDHC cards it ended up being about the same price as the FS22. I had these little electronic prism devices programmed so zoom in/out and record on/off can be controlled via remote control along with pan/tilt. (remote as in using RC airplane/helicopter radios).

Problem solved!!!
FS200 records audio in ac3 codec format, that Adobe Premiere can't recognize...
But Adobe Encore can!!!
Just copy "ad2ac3dec.dll" from Adobe Encore root folder, to Premiere root folder and it's done!!!
It looks to simple to work, but it works for real!!!

I was browsing this forum when a friend PM-ed me about cream-o's video-making contest. they're giving out a Canon Vixia FS200 Camcorder as one of the prizes. what a coincidence. hehe. anyway, the site is www.creamoholics.com in case you want to know.

My rule of thumb is that any boring personal stuff ("Here is a lame slideshow of my vacation photos") goes on YouTube, and anything else goes on Vimeo. I just purchased a pro account and am happy with it. There are many options for embedding your videos, to the point where you could even make it look like you're hosting it yourself.

I also enjoy the community aspect of it, and that there is a sort of aura about Vimeo, like it is the place where arty people to go upload their art videos, and YouTube is where they go to upload old pro wrestling matches.

ExposureRoom is another option that you may also want to consider.

May as well try them all once since they're all free to try.
