Default Black-Throated Trogon

Shot this bird in the rain forest, very limited light so I had to use a flash (580ex) with a canon 40D and canon 500 f4 lens. The bird is in the trogon family; males are very irridescent. The pic was posted on the bird forum with only a couple of responses, would appreciate any CC here. Was the flash turned up too high?
Thanks,
Paul

Not sure mother would approve of his table manners. Nice shot though... looks well focused and sharp, though perhaps a bit noisy? Might just be the JPEG compression to post.... I suspect the flash has over-emphasised the "sheen" in the feathers? But don't recall ever seeing such a bird in in real life, so not sure. Composition is a bit central. Background might be usefully burnt a little, as would the slightly blown areas on the main course's rump. That extra feather on the back's a bit weird... such is life. Guess you must have been pretty close to be using a flash effectively... but with a 500mm... serious equipment! Is the image posted above cropped much? Cheers, Tony
