Default Thousand dollar memory

This stunned me, while shopping for some extra CF cards
I ran into this:

24 GB Acumen CF card
32 GB CF car
An $850-1000 CF CARD??

YIII!!!! What's the big deal about that card ?? Who would need or want something that extravagant and for what purpose?

I'm stunned at the industry of accessories out there available for photographers. 60 years ago if you had a couple of lenses, a set of filters and your camera you were well on your way with everything you needed. Now if you don't have 10 000 $ in gear you're an amateur.

its all about having the best of the best. Image what a 1 gig card cost a couple years ago. Now you can get them for 7 bucks pretty much anywhere.

3-4 years ago you'd have paid that much for Sandisk if those sizes were available. My 4GB Kingston was $250.

As recently as five years ago I paid $206 for a single 1Gb CF card, and just a couple of months ago I bought three 4Gb CF cards for $59.00 and got a $60 rebate on them. They actually paid me a dollar to buy their cards...

I remember when my mom brought home the first digital camera I had ever seen...

It used 3 1/2 in floppy discs!

That isn't even cheaper per gb than a 4gb card. I don't see a reason for that at all.

we still have the Sony "SLR" sized 2.3mp Floppy disc digi here at work, it was the first to take memory sticks, but you had to buy an adapter that went in the the floppy slot to take the memory stick, it has a 12x optical zoom and it actually takes great photos for a 2.3Mp P&S camera

I bought a 256Mb SD card for $75 duty free years ago

the 32Gb cards would be great for video

Sandisk Extreme III 32GB CF is under $200 here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820171383

And they have avg quality ones for under $100. I hope they don't sucker anyone into buying any of those acumen ones.

I've found that some of the old obsolete formats are very expensive as well. I was going to pick up a smartmedia card a couple of months ago for my old Olympus C-3000Z when giving it to my daughter to play around with (she's 7), and a 128MB card was like $60. Ouch!

That's an off brand/House Brand card. They are WAY overpriced, and not really worth it. Has anyone ever heard of them other than from Vistek in Canada? Maybe they are used to get you to buy the Sandisk card that are cheaper?
