Default Hellingly Lunatic Asylum

A few of us went to the abandoned asylum in Hellingly on Sunday (original thread here), and thought I would share the HDR images I took while there. C&C always appreciated!

1. Bay window in one of the large rooms.

2. One of the many long, confusing hallways.

3. The Great Hall.

4. The sitting room.

5. Another hallway.

6. The morgue.

7. Some breakers near the boiler room.

The colors really pop on my screen - some nice shots! Looks like the place has potential for some creepier shots...

I enjoy the detail from the HDR shots epecially the last one but the colours look slightly over saturated and for me that takes away from the eeriness of the place (that may well be my monitor). Some of them would look really good as black and white shots. Just my 2cts

Yea, I was getting really burnt out with all of the "dark and moodyness" of all the other shots, so I decided just to go for the detail with the HDR stuff.

I agree though, they could certainly be done that way to good effect! Thanks andy

Hey I'm glad you took the comment the right way. Never know when to give an honest comment without someone taking it the wrong way. I'll be having a go at HDRs for the first time tonight so would appreciate some critique back.

Definitely mate

And yea, I think the more I look at them the more I agree with you. I'll give them another pass tomorrow night with a darker point of view

Nice Kev really like them, and gives me some inspiration to get my arse in gear and do more braketed shot for HDRing.

Not to overly done, but agree they could do darkened to match the mood of the place maybe??

Ironically, the decaying building seems to have a bit of new life in the morgue!

I like #2 - the hallway. Being close to the wall and the all of the lines in of the boards in the broken out ceiling pull my eyes right down to the end of the hall. Nice work!

Spectacular location, and great shots.

To me, some of the processing could be tweaked. In the first shot, the view outside the window is distractingly oversaturated. And in the 4th shot, the light spilling in on the left is very blue.

That said, the shots are really nice.
