They're both good, but I like the pose of #1 best. On the other hand, portraits are usually better in portrait orientation. This looks like one of those places where you have to take an exception to the rule.
Your lighting looks very good - I will guess that it is with no flash and is probably in "Open Shade", since the shadows are very soft.

I wish Tyler's head wasn't cropped off in #1! Otherwise I like the pose, very candid. Also, maybe a tiny bit of room to the left might make it seem less squeezed.

I demand less hands being cutoff and more bokeh.
#1 plane of nose profile exceeds far cheek, top of head is cutoff on leftmost subject; right hand subjects hands are cutoff #2 left subject arm is cutoff

Robert_Lay - You were actually the one to explain what Open Shade is to me, so I can thank you for that. Thank you!
mikepack - That's what I was thinking, the picture was really tight, I had a few that weren't as bad, but then maybe Tyler's eyes were half shut, or something to that extent, haha. MattMoore - I totally agree. Thanks for pointing out how tight both of the pictures were, it didn't really stand out to me until you guys noticed it. I need to back up a little more next time.
