That has to be a contender for the Countryside Calender competition. Superb, where did find him.

That's a great badger shot - the bluebells really set it off.

Loving the first Badger shot, Doc - amazing for the ISO, and can certainly live with the visible noise that is there.
Comp' worthy for sure. |

Brilliant shots Doc! There are two subjects I haven't got proper images of, kingfishers and badgers. I love these shots and the Mk iv is an excellent camera for dark conditions. I have the Mk iii which isn't anywhere near as good in the dark.

Went across the fields here this morning Sans Camera, and amazing close up views of greater spotted woodies (4 of them) How annoying!
Decided to go back again this afternoon in case they were still about, and after a while spotted my old friend the one eyed Little Owl perched high in the branches (Cogs knows the location) - Great to see that he/ she is still managing to hunt with monoscopic vision - must be either 2 or 3 years now since I first noticed it - close zooming reveals the "missing" eye is actually rather deformed or injured in some way - there is a slight gleam of light on it, so I guess the eye must be still alive as such. Got one of the woodies, but very hard to shoot as it was so high up in an oak tree. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for the compliments Colin - rather crap shots, but they had to be got, no matter.
That looks a stunning piece of glass you've invested in - Moggy shots look sharp as hell. |

I like that one Doc. Nice and sharp and they all seem to be in good poses. What lens did you use for that?
Knowing that the planet Venus is now making quite a thin crescent as it moves towards the sun for its transit on 6 June, I thought I'd have a go at capturing it. I used the 100-400 plus the 1.4x extender on the 7D and cropped in quite a lot to get this picture: ![]() The transit will be well underway when the sun rises on Wednesday 6 June, so I'll be up on Butser Hill, hoping for a clear horizon. Sunrise is 0500, so it'll be an early start. They happen in pairs, 8 years apart, and then it's over 100 years to the next. I photographed the 2004 event on film, so even if I don't get this one I have at least seen one. Apparently the next will be in the year 2117, so I'm not going to bother waiting for that. |
