My G10 has the #80 as part of the serial number and no markings on the inside battery cover plate. I bought mine at the end of December. I phoned Canon and asked about the problem, the rep I spoke with didn't know much except that there may be a problem; but he did send me an e-mail with a UPS link for a pre-paid label. So, I sent my G10 to Canon yesterday. I'm a little put out that even though I registered my G10 with Canon, I did not receive an e-mail about the firmware update or this possible problem with lines on the photos; I got my info from internet Foums. I was under the impression that if a problem with a camera developed, the camera company would contact me by e-mail. Never happened with me.

Would you believe I just received my new G10 about 4 hours ago, had a look on the forums for tips on use and see this thread!
NOT HAPPY, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() it has a recall s/n listed. So mine is being returned to the shop tomorrow. I have noticed a lot of these camera at discount prices, wonder if the retailers are offloading them with the hope no one finds out about it. Most would never know!! What hope is there if this is a new camera from a large supplier. Has anyone else purchased one with ok S/N? so I can see what number they are on now with new stock. Regards Rudgey UK |

I'm aware of what that pic shows, but it's not clear enough. There IS a mark on my lends side, I just wanted to compare it to what marks others have as well.

I just talked to some one at Canon service. She said it isn't a recall, it's a service notice. She said that if at anytime in the future I have the problem I can call and they will repair it free.
I'm going to think about this but since I haven't seen this show up in any of my photos ( I bought it in November) I'm in the same camp as KarlMarsh. We have a trip coming up this summer and I'll use the G10 for some of the photos I'll be taking (30D for most of them) and I don't want to go without it. If I was sure I would have it back in a few weeks then I'd push to send it in but since I haven't experienced the issue I don't want to take a chance on not having my camera back in time. |

The mark is just a little mark from a sharpie type marker on the lens side. As I said my serial # is affected, but it has the mark on the battery cover. I would suspect if you bought the camera recently it would have this mark.....maybe I'm wrong though.

Hi All: Just got off the phone with Canon Canada. After I called about the recall, they put me through the online service; tell me to pay the shipping to the service centre; and say it will take up to 20 business days (about 1 month). I paid $529.00 for a camera and expected a better product and better service policies. After making a complaint, they agreed to pick up the shipping cost both ways. Canon needs a better approach to customer support; and a much better quality control program. The only positive thing was that the guy on the phone was nice and helpful. Canon: are you listening? Don't leave me without a P&S for a month again.
Mike

Better how? they are paying shipping both ways and fixing your camera. 20 days is a long time to wait, I agree...but considering a company the size of Canon and the amount of service repairs they must take on I would say that's fair. It probably won't take that long to get back to you anyway.
I waited 3 months on a Fuji to get fixed one time |

free shipping sounds good to me, and a 20 day turn around seems reasonable. IMO

Canon canada sucks. They really should pay both ways by default.
I sent mine in as well. But things are progressing faster than my 1D mark3 which had to be sent back twice... And they left me without a camera for around 2 months. |

I have a G10 with the serial number, but no lines at all. I have not heard about this over here in Japan.
