Thanks Dave. For all I know we don't even have the purple finches here. It just seems like looking at other people's pics of the purple finch that it looks a lot like this one. I guess I need to get a bird book, that would probably help. Appreciate the ID.

House finch. Purple finch doesn't have the strong brown streaking on the front, plus it has a lot more red coloring.
