Unashamedly borrowed from Wikipedia...

The word leisure comes from the Latinexternal link word licere, meaning “to be permitted” or “to be free,” via Old French leisir, and first appeared in the early fourteenth century. The notions of leisure and leisure time are thought to have emerged in Victorianexternal link Britainexternal link in the late nineteenth century, late in the Industrial Revolutionexternal link. Early factories required workers to perform long shifts, often up to eighteen hours per day, with only Sundays off work. By the 1870s though, more efficient machinery and the emergence of trade unionsexternal link resulted in decreases in working hours per day, and allowed industrialistsexternal link to give their workers Saturdays as well as Sundays off work.
Affordable and reliable transport in the form of railwaysexternal link allowed urban workers to travel on their days off, with the first package holidaysexternal link to seaside resorts appearing in the 1870s, a trend which spread to industrial nations in Europeexternal link and North Americaexternal link. As workers channeled their wages into leisure activities, the modern entertainment industryexternal link emerged in industrialized nations, catering to entertain workers on their days off. This Victorian concept—the weekendexternal link—heralded the beginning of leisure time as it is known today.

I know what I like to do in my leisure time;). What's your concept of leisure and downtime activity?

Garden Time and Photoshopping

I do enjoy working in my garden and then playing in Photoshop. This shot shows a little of both.

Thank you all for participating. Sorry it took so long for me to close this out and judge...Got very involved in the Hawk/Canucks game (What a shootout!). This is probably the toughest challenge I've had to judge. There were many interpretations of the topic and they were all very clever. I don't have the time to comment on all as I did last time(Going to pick up the wife and son from the airport). My nod is going to go MSJGD for his version of the topic "leisure". I love the composition, the very relaxing color rendition and I can picture the guy up top holding a cold one and saying "this is the life". The sun framed through the window is the frosting on the cake.
Kendoway's and Lore's images were also a couple that stood out for me.

Congratulations Jean-Guy! And thank you all for participating!:D

Nice shot Jean-Guy! Makes me want to go back on an Alaskan cruise (and I hear prices are great right now).
